Meaning: over 40 years ago

Meaning was a multi-media installation at the Washington Project for the Arts, Washington DC. The exhibit took place in April 1978. It filled the available four exhibit halls which were on two floors. This was my first personal art exhibit. Three of the installation rooms included windows, doors and mirror fragments, with several different coordinated light systems.

One of the rooms was the Book of Meaning. The 131 pages of the book were displayed on the walls, which were painted black. The pages appear sequentially in this video. The soundtrack was played, repetitively, without stopping, in that exhibit hall, for the entire month. A YouTube video of the Book of Meaning can be viewed by clicking here.

This truly was a multi-media installation experience, fully 40 years ago!
