A hypnotic trance is an altered state of attention, awareness, possibly of consciousness itself. The Sybils in general, and the Oracle at Delphi in particular, were famous for their divinatory-hypnotic trances throughout the ancient Mediterranean world.
In taking down the art installation, Libyan Sybil, which had been on display for six months, at the Čiurlionis Gallery in Chicago, I photographed each and every “thought fragment” as it was removed. There were many hundreds of these fragments, affixed to six wall segments, from floor to ceiling 11 feet tall.
The camera was set at six locations, photographing each wall segment identically each time. The repetition of nearly identical images was trance inducing—it was hypnotic.
I created this video as an attempt to recreate this hypnotic experience, this altered state of consciousness, in six discrete stages. It can be viewed by clicking HERE.

Hipnotinis transas yra pakitusi dėmesio, sąmoningumo, galbūt pačios sąmonės būsena. Sybilai apskritai, o ypač „Delfi orakulas“, garsėjo savo hipnotizuojančiais transnojavimais visame senovės Viduržemio jūros pasaulyje.
Čikagoje, Čiurlionio galerijoje, nuėmęs šešis mėnesius eksponuotą meno instaliaciją „Libyan Sybil“, nufotografavau kiekvieną „minties fragmentą“, kai jis buvo pašalintas. Šių fragmentų, pritvirtintų prie šešių sienų segmentų, 3,5 metrai aukščio nuo grindų iki lubų, buvo daugybė šimtų.
Kamera buvo nustatyta šešiose vietose, kiekvieną kartą kiekvieną sienos segmentą fotografuojant identiškai. Beveik vienodų vaizdų kartojimas sukėlė transą – jis buvo hipnotizuojantis.
