Virginijus Savukynas, the creator of the Lithuanian National TV series History Detectives (Istorijos Detektyvai) visited my boulder installation at the base of Varnupiai Sacred Mound (piliakalnis). He explained that it was built by the Jotvingiai (pre-historic Lithuanians) and probably used for defensive purposes. (The mound may very well have been used for religious rites and rituals–AVP.) Of note, as Virginijus explains, is that this was the most favorite location in Lithuania of Jonas Basanavicius, the father of Lithuania. To have had the person responsible for the existence of Lithuania visit repeatedly this sacred mound, to have repeatedly stepped on the ground where my boulder installation currently sits, is truly remarkable.
