Yesterday evening I saw at Footlight Theater, the play “I Regret Nothing”. The play itself, and the acting, are both superb. I highly recommend that you see it. There are only 3 remaining performances, tonight at 7 PM, Sat and Sun at 2 PM.
The play is by the Hungarian playwright Csaba Szekely. Set in 2006 in Romania, it deals with a retired high-ranking secret service interrogator (aka torturer) in the Communist Ceausescu regime. He has no regrets for his crimes since all of this was done to improve the common good. This is a must see play. The crimes committed under the rubric of creating the perfect utopian society, appear very rarely in plays or in cinema.

On a personal note, 4 of my blood relatives, including both of my grandfathers, were killed during NKVD interrogations, and 12 others were deported to Siberia, where most died. Their crimes against society? They owned small family farms! They were a potential threat to the new world order.
To honor them, and all of the other victims of Stalin’s atrocities, I organized and funded the Hope and Spirit project at the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture in 2011-12. This was the most successful program in the Museum’s history. It consumed two years of my life, and $60,000 of my own personal funds. Please support sensible and intelligent theatrical productions. Lack of knowledge of what Communist regimes have done has resulted in millions of totally ignorant New Yorkers voting for a Communist mayor!
This group of actors needs support.
